Individualised Funding

Learn about Individualised Funding (IF), a way for disabled people to employ or directly manage their disability supports.

What is Individualised Funding?

Individualised Funding (IF) is person-directed funding from Disability Support Services where you can purchase your own disability supports.

IF is available throughout New Zealand for eligible people who have been assessed to receive either Home and Community Support Services or respite services

IF gives those who are eligible more choice control and flexibility in the way you use your disability support budget. IF enables people to pay for a wider range of disability supports – not just the traditional supports (personal care , household management, and respite services are currently available under IF). If you are using IF, you are able to purchase supports under the Purchasing Guidelines.

Who can get Individualised Funding?

To access Individualised Funding (IF), you'll need to have an assessment. Start by contacting your local Needs Assessment and Service Coordination (NASC) provider to discuss whether this funding is right for you.

You may be eligible for Individualised Funding if you:

  • are eligible for Disability Support Services

  • have spoken with a NASC to check if Individualised Funding suits your needs

  • have been given a support service that you can manage with IF.

Find out more about Individualised Funding on the Disability Support Services website.
