The 2025 Matariki Pēwhairangi Festival includes story-telling, cultural experiences, Matariki-inspired feasts, music, family fun, and some of the best star-gazing opportunities in the land.
Ngā Reta
When: Saturday 14 June, 7:30pm
Location: The Turner Centre, 43 Cobham Road Kerikeri
Cost: Pay what you can from $10 + booking fee
Performed entirely in te reo Māori, Ngā Reta is a powerful solo show about identity, whakapapa, and the pull of home.
Moana: Free Outdoor Movie
When: Friday 20 June, 5:30pm
Location: Paihia Village Green
Cost: Free
With stunning animation, catchy songs, and unforgettable characters, this Disney hit celebrates courage, friendship, and the power of believing in yourself—a movie the whole family will love!
Matariki Dawn Cruise
When: Saturday 21 June, 5:00am-9:15am
Location: Paihia or Russell Wharf
Cost: Adults $119, Kids (14 and under) $59.50, Infants (4 and under) FREE
Head out into the sheltered Bay of Islands to experience Matariki rising at dawn.
Matariki Dusk Train and Hakari (Feast)
When: Saturday 21 June, 4:00pm-8:00pm
Location: Bay of Islands Vintage Railway
Cost: $99
Join us for cultural korero, star gazing and native bird calls at Taumarere Long Bridge followed by a Matariki inspired hākari.
Waitangi Free Open Day
When: Sunday 22 June
Location: Waitangi Treaty Grounds, Tau Henare Drive, Waitangi
Cost: Free
Visit Waitangi and enjoy their full programme of free guided tours and cultural performances.
Matariki Celebration of Kapa Haka, Music, and Dance
When: Sunday 22 June, 6:00pm-7:00pm
Location: The Turner Centre, 43 Cobham Road Kerikeri
Cost: Pay What You Can from $5 + booking fee
Experience the dynamic essence of kapa haka, encompassing haka, poi, choral pieces, action songs, and entry waiata.
