World Down Syndrome Day 21 March 2024

Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day with us 21st March! #EndTheStereotypes

February 9th, 2024

This March 21st we're calling on kiwi's to #EndTheStereotypes

Stereotypes are usually based on very little information but they can be seriously hard to change. This World Down Syndrome Day we're joining our disability community around the world in asking our friends to challenge the stereotypes they hold about our Down Syndrome whānau.

The Lots of Socks campaign

On March 21, chose bright and eye-catching socks to use as a conversation starter. When someone comments on your socks, tell them you're wearing them to help End The Stereotypes around Down Syndrome. You can then explore what they might think about DS and share what you know.

If you want to do a bit more reading in the run up to Lots of Socks, check out “What is Down Syndrome” on our friends at NZDSA's website

What are you doing to celebrate?

Let us know if you're hosting an event, have somewhere people can go for information or have written an article or recorded something you'd like to share. We can only break stereotypes if we work together and we'd love to share your stories and events with our community. You never know what way or which person will help people reconsider a long-held belief. Every bit counts!
