Growing your relationships and connecting
You're not alone, there are so many people out there waiting to connect with you and grow relationships. How that looks is different for everyone, take a look at this advice and check out some of these organisations making it happen.
Joining a support group is a good place to start making social connections. Support groups allow you meet people in similar situations to you and bond over the experiences you have had. Sometimes it is just good to be able to talk about challenges you face and dreams you have with people who can relate.
There is a range on disability support groups across the country. A lot of support groups meet in person and go on outings together, while others connect online. There are general disability support groups as well as support groups for specific disabilities. There are also support groups for parents of children with disabilities.
We also have advice for meeting people and dating when you have a disability. Online dating apps can be a great way to meet people. There are the well-known, mainstream apps like Hinge and Bumble, but if you are looking for a dating service catering specifically to disabled people, the MyKind website is a great option.
When using online platforms to meet people, it is always important to keep yourself safe. Read Netsafe’s tips for safe online dating.
