Election Access Fund
The Election Access Fund supports disabled people to stand as candidates in parliamentary general elections and by-elections.
Purpose of the Fund
The Election Access Fund is there to reduce cost barriers disabled people face when they choose to run for Parliament.
You can apply to the fund if you’re a disabled person:
seeking selection to be a candidate for a political party
or
campaigning as a candidate in an election
The fund is only for parliamentary elections, so isn’t available for local elections.
What the Fund can be used for
You can apply to the fund for selection and campaigning activity costs related to your disability which non-disabled people don’t face.
The Electoral Commission has a long list of example costs the fund can be used for. Some examples include accessible taxis to meetings, someone to assist with reading and writing, and adaptive equipment.

Applying to the Fund
You can apply by downloading and completing a form on the elections.nz website. Alternatively, you can call or email them and ask them to send you a form.
You’ll also need to provide supporting documents such as quotes for the things you’re wanting funding for, and evidence that you’re seeking selection or standing as a candidate.
