Local Information and advice centres

Pop into a centre for information, resources or advice about anything related to disability.

There are disability information and advice centres that you can visit around the country.

Services provided by disability information centres include:

  • Information and resources: Centres offer a wealth of information on disability-related topics, including rights, services, and support options.

  • Advocacy: Many centres provide advocacy services to help members of our disability community navigate the healthcare system as well as other organisations you might need to interact with, e.g. Work and Income, legal services.

  • Community support: Centres often offer community-based support, including social groups, workshops, seminars, and events.

  • Disability equipment and aids: Some centres provide disability equipment and aids to improve daily living, or they can give you advice if you are deciding what equipment is best for you. Some centres sell equipment, some have items available for hire, and some do both.

  • Advisory services: Centres can provide professional advice on various aspects of living with a disability, including housing, employment, education, and accessibility.

  • Transport: Some centres can provide transport assistance, including assessments for the Total Mobility Scheme (subsidised taxi fares for disabled people who are unable to use public transport).

Some disability information centres operate mobile services, where staff travel around their wider region to make it easier for people to access them for information and advice.

These centres are dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities and ensuring they have access to the support and resources they need to live their best lives.
