Early in 2023, Whaikaha Ministry of Disabled People announced that organisations could apply for part of a one million dollar fund for disability leadership and networks.
They have just announced the successful applicants are:
- Enabling Good Lives Taranaki
- My Life My Voice
- Tiaho Trust working in Te Tai Tokerau
- Standards and Monitoring Service (SAMS)
- People First Aotearoa
These organisations were chosen because they engage disability led organisations. They also have disabled people and tāngata whaikaha Māori as community leaders and they create space for their voices.
Whaikaha Chief Exective Paula Tesoriero said these organisations are developing Enabling Good Lives focused leadership in our community.
“Strong and connected communities work for all people, they are particularly important for disabled people. This funding creates the opportunity to invest in alliances, influence, advocacy collaboration and leadership within communities.
