This International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Tuesday 3rd December, The D*List is hosting a free community portraits day at our community hub in Tāmaki Makaurau.

If you are someone that hasn’t had the opportunity to get your photo taken in a while, or simply want to be the representation you needed when you were younger, this event is for you! We know this year has been a challenging one for our disabled, whānau hauā and d/Deaf communities so we invite you to come along, get dressed up and have your portrait taken!

Our community hub will be open on Tuesday December 3rd between 10am - 4pm for kai, kōrero, and for people to get their portrait taken and updated with Becki Moss, award-winning storyteller and proud member of the disability and LGBTQIA+ communities.

You'll get to have your picture taken by Becki, with digital and print copies gifted from us to you. This event is free for disabled and d/Deaf people, and you are welcome to bring whānau along too.

Register your interest for a photo session using the link below, and we will provide you with further information about the day, and what to expect.

There will be separate spaces to hang out and share kai while you wait, as well as the opportunity to meet other folks that pop in for the day too.

Portraits will be on a first come first served basis and there may be a slight wait time depending on the interest and time of day. If you can’t make it this time, we hope to hold similar events in the future.

So come and celebrate our International Day together by getting dressed up and feeling delicious, dazzling and defiant with The D*List team.

We want to mihi to the work of US-based disability rights activist Alice Wong, who hosted a community portrait event at San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art earlier this year and inspired us to offer something similar here in Aotearoa.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Ella Sargison, D*List Community Hub Manager.
