Age Concern New Zealand Manawatu Outreach Service
We are dedicated to supporting people over the age of 65.
We work to promote the rights, well-being, respect and dignity of older people, koroua and kuia. We operate services and also provide information about services and social activities that our available in Palmerston North and Manawatu Districts.
We operate an Elder Abuse and Response service, supporting people aged 65+ who are experiencing abuse. This is a free, confidential service and anyone can make a referral to it including older people, families, friends, other service providers etc.
We support socially isolated older people through our Accredited Visiting Service, whereby we recruit, screen and train volunteers to visit an older person in their home for one hour per week. We aim to match a volunteer with an older person who has similar interests. We provide on going support to the client and to the volunteer.
From time to time we organise other social activities for older people e.g. the Afternoon Tea Dance for International Day of the Older Person.
We run health promotion programmes for older people including the excercise programmes Steady as You Go, a gentle falls prevention programme developed for people aged 65+ and the faster paced Rhythm and Move. We also run programmes for older people related to driving.
We provide information about our services and other services and supports that are available to older people and we are happy to give talks to interested groups. We also work with Age Friendly Palmerston North to make the city a good place for older people to live.
